All-women police station opened in Dharamsala

Dharamsala : After Shimla, this town in Himachal Pradesh Monday became the second in the state to have an all-women police station.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh inaugurated the police station, a statement said.

Singh said such police stations would provide easy access to women in registering complaints. “More such police stations would be opened in the state,” he added.

Shimla’s all-women police station was opened Aug 11.

The women police station is headed by an officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police.

It comprises an inspector-rank station house officer, two sub-inspectors, six head constables and 10 constables. Two constables would be available during the night, said an official.

There is also a provision for women vehicle drivers in both Shimla and Dharamsala police stations. But they are yet to be deployed, the chief minister added.
