Is Secular Junta Dal playing communal card in JNU?

By Mahmood Asim, TwoCircles.net,

In recent by polls Nitish Kumar’s Janta Dal (U) toil hard and did what was totally unpredictable to go into alliance with RJD in order to foster democracy and prevent communal forces coming into power in Bihar. And they really did it well in winning over BJP. But Janta Dal student organization named Chatra Janta Dal seems hand in glove with communal forces in recent election of JNUSU scheduled to be held on 12 September.

On occasion of presidential debate which is biggest and most crucial part of the election in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), candidate of Chatra Janta Dal Chandra Shekher Yadav went a step ahead of ABVP sparking the communal issues in his address to the gathering.

Is Secular Junta Dal playing communal card in JNU?

Speaking at Jhelum Lawn of JNU, official spot for presidential debate Yadav claimed that “India is a Hindu Nation and shall remain the same.” In addition to it he cited the issue of non-vegetarian foods in a dirty way that sparked the anger of audience and declared that it is very bad practice in JNU that vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods are cooked in same utensils.

Although the issue he raised was fairly logical and many agreed with him in that respect but the way he narrated the issue made students to demand a legitimate apology; which Yadav had to finally render in the end.

Yadav’s speech on presidential debate is a proof to conceive above notion that Chatra Janta Dal is playing communal card and acting as a B team of ABVP in the campus.

Two consecutive posters issued by Chatra Janta Dal during election campaign tell the same story. One poster titled ‘Islamic-Fascism and global jihad’ justifies barbarism of Israel’s bombing on Gaza and blames Hamas for violence. The poster quotes “from using civilians as human shields to building rocket launching sites near mosques and hospitals Hamas has crossed every limit”. The poster also adds “while the Israelis supplied Gaza with oil, electricity and water Hamas fired rockets into Israel.”

Describing the global jihad a dangerous phenomenon the poster criticizes the silence of communist over these issues. The poster also lauds the support of Israel that India enjoys with.

“global jihad is a serious problem that communists have deliberately ignored, not even once they have raised their voice over the plight of Kashmiri pundits, Pakistani and Bangladeshi Hindus”, the poster states.

There are many questions which arise due to such communal impressions displayed at JNUSU presidential debate by Janta Dal child wing – Whether their parental party, JD(U), is aware of all this development? Whether they sanctioned such communal card to play as their pole plank? If JD(U) can come together with RJD to save democracy then by allowing such politics on communal line are they not displaying their double standard? These are the questions Junta Dal and its student’s wing must answer to all secular people of this country.
