AMU Teachers to contribute one day salary for the victims of Kashmir Flood

By TCN News,

Aligarh: Expressing the true spirit of its tradition, Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) has decided to contribute one day Gross Salary as a token of support for relief and rehabilitation of the victims of Kashmir flood. The decision in this regard was taken in an emergent meeting of the General Body of AMUTA.

Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association expressed deep pain and grief over the loss of lives and damage to properties in the aftermath of unprecedented flooding and landslides, the worst in more than a century, caused by the torrential rain in Jammu and Kashmir, said Dr. Aftab Alam, Secretary of AMUTA.

According to the unanimous resolution passed by AMUTA, the magnitude of tragedy is not known so far as the number of dead is uncertain and the loss is yet to be ascertained. However over several thousand people are believed to have perished in this nature induced catastrophe. Over several thousand people are still trapped in various places and have been battling for survival and waiting to be rescued. The unprecedented fury of water has virtually effaced roads, bridges, electric polls and communication links, houses, hospitals and schools. The loss in terms of property, savings, and personal belongings is enormous. The threat of disease outbreak is also lurking in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

AMUTA also offered heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery for the injured. The Association expressed solidarity with the victims and their families in their hour of crisis.

Aligarh Muslim University has already sent a medical team to mitigate the suffering of the stranded people. The Association has urged both the central and state governments to speed up rescue and relief operations.

“The General Body urges all countrymen to stand up behind the people of Kashmir in their hour of crisis and help them overcome this natural disaster”, appealed Dr. Alam.
