Gadkari discusses rehabilitation measures with Kashmir governor

Srinagar : Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari Monday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and discussed various issues related to the devastation caused by the floods in the state.

Gadkari and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh met Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.

“Gadkari and the governor discussed various issues related to the aftermath of the devastation caused by the unprecedented floods in the state, particularly the serious damage caused to the road network and the washing away of several important bridges,” an official statement said.

The governor raised with Gadkari the importance of speeding up the ongoing four-laning of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the need for establishing an alternate route to the existing Batote-Doda road.

He also spoke about the measures required to be taken to reduce the growing number of deaths in road accidents in certain areas of the state.

Gadkari assured all necessary help to restore the road network in the state after the recent floods, the statement said.

Vohra also requested Jitendra Singh to install a Doppler Radar in the Kashmir Valley for prompt and accurate weather forecast.

He said the radar would be of immense help in the day-to-day management of the Amarnath Yatra as the movement of pilgrims would be on the basis of highly accurate weather forecasts.
