School students walk for healthy heart

Mumbai: In an effort to raise awareness about the heart disease in Mumbai, students of Lady Engineering High School, Tardeo under the banner of Hamdulay Heart Foundation participated in a walk from Nariman point to Marine drive on Monday.

The theme of the walk was “I Pleadge to work for Healthy Heart”.

Some 50 students of the school took to walking from 11.00 am and walked from NCPA, Nariman Point to Marine Drive.

Principle of the school, Eric Elavia, said “Involving school students is a good idea, this will educate them about the seriousness of the issue. Students involvement also make people to take note of the situation and take the message home.”

Dr. Zainulabedin Hamdulay, founder of Hamdulay Heart Foundation, said “Heart disease is affecting people and gender of all age group. Our foundation is committed in helping people in fighting against the number one killer; this walk is a part of many such endeavours.”

Afzal Khan, 32 an I.T professional and one of the general participants said, “Though we are aware of seriousness of the issue but we rarely take precaution or care about it, taking message from this walk, I will see that at least I start with a routine and regular exercise.”

On the end note of the walk, Dr. Zainualabedin Hamdulay, a cardiothoracic surgeon advised to keep a watch on High blood pressure, Diabetes, Smoking, use of alcohol or caffeine, Drug abuse and Stress and follow a healthy and active lifestyle.
