Bangalore: Out of 197 wards that saw the election for Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), 16 returned Muslim Councillors in the election results announced yesterday. Outgoing BBMP had 11 Muslims out of 198 Councillors.

BJP will dominate the next BBMP with 99 seats, Congress which rules Karnataka won 76 seats while Janta Dal (Secular) won 14 seats, Independents and others won 8 wards.

Much talked about All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) failed to win a single ward. Social Democratic Party of India, another Muslim-led party which has been working in Karantaka for many years was able to win one seat when its candidate Mujahid Pasha was declared winner from Siddapura.

Majlis had contested at 28 wards, 18 of which was won by the Congress, 7 by BJP, 2 by JD(S), and one Independent.

Other Muslim winners include 12 from Congress and 3 from JD(S).
