Can’t implement Swaminathan report: Haryana minister

Gurgaon: Haryana Agriculture Minister O.P. Dhankar Friday said he was not in a position to implement the National Commission on Farmers (NCF) report submitted by the noted agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan.

Dhankar, is also national president of BJP’s Kisan Morcha (the farmers wing of Bharatiya Janata Party). said that he cannot help implementation of Swaminathan report as he was not a union minister.

Speaking to media persons in Gurgaon, he said that it was the duty of central government to work on Swaminathan report and said that he could have done something if he was in the centre.

Dhankar used to claim in his speeches that the farmer community was facing a shortage of Rs one lakh crore per annum because of non implementation of Swaminathan report.

Prior to Lok Sabha polls and assembly elections in Haryana, Dhankar promised people that BJP will go with report if the party comes to power. He always blamed the previous Congress-led UPA government for working on policies against farmers and neglecting rural sector.
