Security forces bust guerrilla hideout in Jammu

Jammu: Security forces on Wednesday busted a guerrilla hideout in Jammu region’s hilly Kishtwar district, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, an official said.

“We unearthed a cache of weapons and ammunition from a hideout near the remote area of Kasiyan in Kishtwar district today (Wednesday),” defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS here.

He said this was the result of sustained joint efforts by the security forces and police to deny terrorists in Kishtwar district an opportunity to revive militancy.

“This cache had the potential to be utilized in abetting terrorist activity in the region, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and the forthcoming Machel Yatra,” the official said.

Acting on a tip-off by a reliable local source, troops of Delta Force located at Jangalwar and Kishtwar police personnel swung into action and busted the hideout.

A search was conducted for 48 hours amid thick vegetation and in poor weather conditions. Following this, one AK-56 Rifle with three magazines, two pistols with two magazines, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), 423 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 20 rounds of pistol ammunition, nine UBGL grenades, 13 hand grenades and two Kenwood Radio Sets were recovered.

Major General A.S. Rawat, General Officer Commanding of Delta Force, complimented the efforts and said: “This recovery is indeed a major blow to the inimical elements and those harbouring terrorist activities in the district.”
