Owaisi attends iftar in Meerut, to visit Agra

Lucknow: After many failed attempts to create a base for his party in Uttar Pradesh, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday began a two-day visit to the state, attending an ‘iftar’ at Meerut.

He is slated to attend another iftaar party in Agra on Tuesday. While his supporters and party workers have termed it as a social and religious visit, insiders say the visit in two cities with significant Muslim presence is also aimed at energising his supporters.

AIMIM’s UP convener Shaukat Ali told IANS that Owaisi was in the state for two days to attend the iftar parties but added that he would also meet party workers, sympathizers and followers in the western parts of the state.
