Land bill anti-farmer, needs major changes: AAP

Kolkata: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh on Friday said the land bill which has been brought by the NDA is “anti-farmer” and needs “major changes”.

“In the present form it is not good at all… it needs major changes and we are requesting the government that if it wants the land bill to become a reality then it must make certain fundamental changes.

“It (government) cannot have a bill where farmers are not safe, in fact, it’s a very anti-farmer bill in that sense,” he told the media here when quizzed on the party’s support for the bill.

He was participating in a discussion organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015, which has been passed by the Lok Sabha, is being opposed by the Congress and other parties in the Rajya Sabha where the NDA government does not have a majority.

The bill is currently with a joint committee of parliament headed by BJP leader S.S. Ahluwalia for detailed discussion.

“There has to be a consensus among parties on economic reforms for development,” said Ashutosh.
