Ramadan 1436: Fellow passenger

Passenger

Mrs. Jawadwala, a resident of Grant Road (she’s originally from Lucknow, but has lived in Bombay for decades now), boarded the train at the same station as I did, and kept wondering why I kept shooting pictures outside the train’s window.

A few stations later, when a bunch of hawkers entered the compartment, I decided to buy a toy rubber Spider-man that sticks to the wall. Realising that I was getting fleeced, she helped me bargain with the sellers, and later told me that her grandson, too, wants to be a photographer. “But he will not just shoot outside the window, he will also make pictures of me,” she said proudly.

And I, in the awkward position of sitting beside her, trying not to disturb the man in front of me who was fast asleep, made this picture.
