Ashfaq has been working as a salesperson in a South Bombay store since the past two years, before which he did a bunch of odd jobs to justify his moving to the city from his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. “It’s not what I imagined this city to be, the dreams we see back home are very different. But the reality is a dream too, just a different kind of dream,” he told me. He is a huge fan of Salman Khan, or Bhai, as he calls him, and scoffed when I asked him what he thinks of Shah Rukh or Ranbir Kapoor.
