Dimapur lynching: SIO West Bengal team demands high level inquiry

SIO team meets Nagaland Dy Resident Commissioner at Kolkata

New Delhi: A delegation of the West Bengal unit of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) met Nagaland deputy Resident Commissioner here on the ongoing burning issue of brutal lynching to death in Dimapur a person suspected by Nagas to have raped a Naga girl.

An agitated mob went on rampage, pulled out suspected rape accused Syed Sarif Khan lodged in Dimapur prison on judicial custody, paraded him naked through the main thoroughfares of Dimapur and then hanged him in full public view on Thursday, March 5.

Terming the incident as condemnable, inhuman and barbaric, the SIO, West Benal team – in a memorandum submitted to the Nagaland Deputy Resident Commissioner – demanded a high level inquiry into the failure of Nagaland government. “We demand to reveal the actual fact on the rape case and killing of our countryman. We also condemn taking law in hand by the Naga public and failure of police administration in securing the life and property of non-Nagamese (sic),” the memorandum read.

The SIO West Bengal unit also appealed people to “keep faith in judiciary and investigative agencies”, a release said here.

The delegation included Sk Mohabbat, SIO state general secretary, Kamruj Jamal, education secretary, Mohammad Bakibillah, organisation secretary and other members including Mohammad Sujauddin and Sk Naimuddin, the release added.
