Hyderabad youth arrested for IS link granted bail by Delhi court

New Delhi: In a blow to the Delhi special cell, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate granted bail to a Hyderabad-based youth, alleged to be involved in chatting on Jihadi websites about self-proclaimed caliphate organisation ‘Islamic State’ and arrested here for possessing arms in October.

Rehmat Pasha, 30, was granted bail on Wednesday by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one surety of the like amount.

Pasha was arrested from the New Delhi railway station on October 5 by Special Cell officials who had claimed that they recovered two country-made pistols and seven live cartridges from his possession.

After his arrest, the Special cell had said Pasha was in Delhi to carry out anti-national activity and has links with banned terror outfit Islamic State. It was also alleged that he was planning to abduct or kill politicians in the National capital.

Therefore, the FIR lodged against Pasha by the police alleged that he was suspected to be involved in “anti-national and criminal activities”.

However, after listening to the arguments of defence lawyer MS Khan, the Magistrate allowed bail to Pasha and cautioned him not to hamper with witnesses and evidences in the case.

As per Indian Express Pasha had been questioned by officials of the Special Cell as well as central intelligence agencies but they had found no evidence of his involvement with any terror activity.

After his arrest, Pasha’s wife had written a letter to Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (Arshad Madani) to provide legal assistance for releasing her husband owing to which Advocate MS Khan was appointed by Jamiat for him.

Talking with TwoCircles.net Gulzar Azmi, Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (Maharashtra) said, “We are happy that we could provide timely assistance and help him to secure bail. After we receive letter from his wife we were sure that he was innocent and had immediately asked our lawyer to pursue the case”.
