Congress feels BJP will get credit for GST: Rudy

Guwahati : Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Wednesday slammed the Congress over non-passage of the GST bill, saying the party was obstructing the legislation as it feels the Narendra Modi government will get the credit if the bill is passed.

“Unfortunately, the Congress believes that if the GST bill is passed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre will be credited,” the minister for skill development and entrepreneurship, who is on a visit to some of the northeastern states, told reporters at the BJP’s state headquarters in Guwahati.

“This is possibly creating the obstruction in passing the bill,” he said.

The day the Goods and Services Tax bill is passed by both houses of parliament, India’s GDP will grow at least by 1 percent, which will lead to huge investment, he said.

“The GST bill was the United Progressive Alliance government’s baby. It is a good legislation. We believe it is good for the states as well as for the Centre,” Rudy said, hoping that the bill is passed in the upcoming budget session of parliament.
