Four Dalits were thrashed inhumanly on July 11 by a cow protection vigilante group, a video clip of which gone viral and attracted nationwide condemnation.

Dr. S.Q. R. Ilyas, president of WPI in a statement held the Modi government at the centre responsible for increased attacks on Dalits and minorities.

“What happened in Una is the repetition of what was met with Akhlaq in Dadri who was lynched for mere suspicion of keeping beef in his home”, Ilyas said adding, “It is shame for the nation that even after nearly seven decades of independence, we failed to provide our Dalit brothers the status equal to fellow human beings”.

He also demanded strong actions against the culprits, compensation of 10 lakhs to each victim and government jobs according to their educational qualifications.

“The Party conveys it’s deep-felt solidarity with the organizations in Gujarat fighting for dignity, decency and democratic rights of Dalits” Ilyas added.

He also took strong exception to the derogatory remarks made against BSP chief and former UP CM Mayavati by the BJP state vice president Dayashankar Singh.

“It exposes the castiest mindset of the ruling saffron party,” he alleged.
