Accusing the BJP for not delivering on its promise of transforming Varanasi as Kyoto, Congress workers clashed with police. Nearly 100 Congress workers were arrested who were later released on personal bond. UP Congress Committee has launched Jail Bharo campaign against BJP.

Congress too chose the August 9, the same as that of Samajwadi Party, to agitate against the BJP government. August 9 is celebrated as August Kranti day throughout the country in remembrance of Quit India movement.

Hundreds of party volunteers and supporters, along with ex-MP Rajesh Mishra, ex-MLA Ajay Rai, and Congress Legislature Party leader Ajay Kumar Lallu had a fight with district police on district collectorate.

Following the tussle, about 100 protestors were arrested by the police.

“Modi ji stated that he shall make Kashi, a city like Kyoto. But sewer is overflowing and roads are still not repaired.” Ajay Rai said.

PM Modi has launched Integrated Power Development Scheme (IDPS) in 2015 to make round the clock availability of electricity “IDPS is pursuing underground cabling of electric wires, but several animals have died due to the pace of work,” Rai said pointing the incidents in the city where various cattle died because of electric shocks.

Taking the example of Vikas Barala’s case from Haryana, Congress leaders also targeted Modi for not delivering the ‘Beti Bachao’ promise.
