Ramnathpur village of Sultanpur had been simmering with tensions between two groups for the past few days. On Friday, the clash took a violent route when a group of upper-caste people attacked a Dalit family.

Of the four injured, 42-year-old Ramjeet, the breadwinner of the family, died in the hospital while Ramjeet’s wife Sumitra (40), Ramjeet’s son Manjit (23), and Manjit’s wife Antima (20) suffered serious injuries. Antima was pregnant when she was attacked.

Locals have informed media that police had prior information about the clash between the two groups. But police allegedly did not pay attention to the complaints and dismissed the clashes a result of excess drinking.

When TwoCircles.net asked Police about the same, no explanation was given. Moreover the Police has registered FIR against five people based on the complaint of Manjit, but has not arrested anyone yet.

Sultanpur SP Amit Verma has informed that due to increasing tension in the village, additional forces have deployed in the village.
