By IANS, Indore : With the arrest of three people, Madhya Pradesh police Friday claimed to have solved a murder case in which four members of a family, including two infants, were brutally killed earlier this week. Police claimed that the motive behind the case was robbery and said that the main accused in the case, Yogesh Nainwa alias Papia, was absconding. Insurance agent Rajesh Malakar, his wife Sunita and their two children were murdered at their residence April 11.

Tough law against corporal punishment in Assam schools

By IANS, Guwahati : The Assam government Monday introduced a tough legislation banning corporal punishment in schools with provision for prosecuting errant teachers, including suspension and even termination from service. The Assam Corporal Punishment for Educational Institutions (Prohibition) Bill, 2010, would be placed before the Assam assembly for a final nod when it meets March 2 for its Budget session. "The final draft is ready and we just want the nod of the assembly before it becomes a law," Mohsin Ali, Assam director of secondary education told IANS.

Fake currency scam: Cashier admits to exchanging fake notes with real

By IANS, Lucknow : Sudhakar Tripathi, a cashier of the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Domariyaganj in Uttar Pradesh, has admitted to the police that he had exchanged fake currency notes worth Rs.15 million with the original ones, sources said Thursday. The police probing the recovery of fake currency notes in the SBI branch had taken Tripathi into remand for further questioning. A team of the Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) has already visited the branch, sources said.

A locomotive of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) chugged into the Agartala railway station, five km from the heart of the capital city, Sunday afternoon with thousands of people cheering and blowing conch shells. LPG tanker blast in Haryana creates chaos on highway

By IANS, Ambala (Haryana) : A tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exploded, following a gas leak, on National Highway-1 near Ambala Monday, the police said. Officials said a major tragedy was averted, as barring one person who suffered burn injuries, there was no other casualty. The LPG tanker was on its way to Jammu from Ghaziabad. A car hit it from the rear leading to a gas leak from one of its valves. Despite this, driver of the tanker drove it for about two-three kilometers and then abandoned it on the road, the police said.

By IANS, Ranchi : An ex-chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) along with three of its former members are under the vigilance scanner for alleged irregularities in the appointments of 19 administrative officials. Governor M.O.H. Farook Wednesday granted permission to lodge an FIR against former JPSC chairman Dileep Prasad and the three others - Radhagovind Nagesh, Shanti Devi and Gopal Singh - for the "wrongful" appointments of the 19 officers, most of whom have been found to be relatives of politicians and ex-JPSC members.

Jharkhand in a fix over sex education

Ranchi : The Jharkhand government is in a fix over introducing sex education in schools following objections from political and religious bodies.

"We have not yet decided whether to implement sex education in schools. This is a serious issue and we will take a decision only after consulting scholars, politicians and other sections of the society," Bandhu Tirkey, Jharkhand's Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister, said Sunday.
