By IANS, Raipur : In a first case of its kind, the Chhattisgarh government has demoted a director general (DG)-rank police officer after the central government turned down its request for having three such officers. The government demoted DG (jails), Sant Kumar Paswan, an Indian Police Service officer of 1978 batch, to additional director general (ADG) rank, a home department source said Sunday. The central government has turned down a written request of Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Chhattisgarh that it be allowed to have three DG-rank officials, the source said.

By IANS, Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government has announced construction of a multi-storeyed building, which will house a library, an emporium and portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, to mark his visit to Raipur, now the state capital, in 1920. The building, to be constructed at a cost of Rs.20 million, will come up in the Kankali Para area, on a 1,560 sq metre piece of land. Mahatma Gandhi visited here during his trip to the area Dec 20, 1920 to build up the movement against British rule. Officials said the government sanctioned Rs.5 million to begin the construction work on a war-footing.

By IANS, New Delhi : In a significant ruling in favour of thousands of tenants in the capital, a city court has ruled that a tenant can apply for a separate water connection even if the owner declines to give a no objection certificate (NOC). Additional Sessions Judge Pratibha Rani in an order passed last week said: "Since the appellant is in possession of the premises as tenant and has every right to have water supply even if the landlord prefers not to issue NOC, the tenant can obtain an independent water connection without NOC from the landlord for the premises in his tenancy."

Madhya Pradesh raises nursing staffs’ retirement age

By IANS, Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government Friday raised the retirement age of nursing employees in the state to 65 years from the present 60 years, an official said. "A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here decided to raise the retirement age of nursing employees/officers working under public health and family welfare department from 60 to 65 years", Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya told reporters. The cabinet has also sanctioned 744 posts of assistant teacher for education guarantee schools, the minister said.

The court said the government had done its bit to send an invitation. Parents of Major Mohit Sharma, who was killed while fighting militants in Kashmir last year, pleaded before the court that they have not got the official invitation for attending the ceremony.
