Kolkata : Blaming the ruling Left Front government in West Bengal for the Singur stalemate, Information and Broadcasting Minister and senior Congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi Thursday held Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee responsible for the entire issue.
“Bhattacharjee is the only person responsible for the Singur impasse. The state government completed the entire procedure of land acquisition in a hurry and thus the situation deteriorated,” Dasmunsi said at the 55th Foundation Day celebration of Congress party’ students’ wing Chhatra Parishad (CP) here.
He said the Congress would always stand by the farmers and help to protect their interests.
“We have decided to hold a meeting Aug 30 and after that we would disclose our stand on Singur in West Bengal. In the meeting, we would review the present situation there,” he said, urging his supporters to keep patience till the party finalises its political programme on the issue.
Dasmunsi said the central government would not lend any support to the West Bengal government on Singur land row.
“Buddhadeb will have to do everything on his own to resolve the issue,” he said.
The Trinamool Congress-backed Krishijami Jiban Jibika Raksha Committee, which has opposed the takeover of farmland for the Tata project, has been staging an indefinite protest at the Nano factory site in Singur, about 40 km from here, since Sunday.
The protesters, led by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, have demanded the return of 400 acres of land, which they allege was forcibly taken from “unwilling farmers” to build ancillary industries adjacent to the main plant.
A total of 997.11 acres was acquired for the project, of which 691.66 acres belonged to farmers who gave their land willingly.
Nano, the world’s cheapest car priced at Rs.100,000, is set to roll out in October.
