Federal agency to counter terror soon, says government

New Delhi : The Indian government Sunday announced plans to set up a Federal Investigating Agency to counter the terror threat in the aftermath of the Mumbai carnage and promised to consult all political parties on its modalities.

Setting up a federal agency is one of the several measures the government announced at an all-party meeting, convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held at his residence here Sunday evening.

The government promised to consult all political parties on the modalities of forming the new agency, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader K. Yerran Naidu told jounralists after the five-hour long meeting.

The terrorist attack in Mumbai, which began Wednesday night, claimed 183 lives.
