Congress asks Omar not to be too emotional

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Congress, partner of the ruling Jammu and Kashmir coalition, Tuesday asked Chief Minister Omar Abdullah “not to get too emotional” after a high political drama unfolded in the state assembly following the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) allegations that he was involved in 2006 sex scandal.

An emotionally charged Abdullah threatened to resign from his post after senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig alleged that his name figured in the list of accused in the sex scam that rocked the state in 2002.

“Omar should not get too emotional,” state Congress chief Saifuddin Soz told reporters in parliament here.

In the sensational sex scandal exposed three years ago, a minor girl in Srinagar had accused that senior politicians, bureaucrats, paramilitary and police officers raped her.

The victim, as it unfolded in police investigation later, was forced into a huge sex ring allegedly involving many political and security bigwigs.

Baig submitted a list in the assembly, naming the accused in the case prepared by the CBI. According to Baig, Abdullah’s name was 102 in the list.
