Former foreign secretary S.K. Singh is Rajasthan governor

Jaipur : S.K. Singh, a former foreign secretary, was Thursday sworn in as the 18th governor of Rajasthan. He succeeds Pratibha Patil who resigned in July and is now the country’s president.

Justice J.M. Panchal, the acting chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court, administered the oath of office to Singh. He was earlier the governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Singh, born on Jan 24,1932, was given a guard of honour by the state police.

Singh told reporters that he was “happy” to be in Rajasthan. “Rajasthan is progressing a lot and I would focus my attention on water and IT development,” he said.

Singh began his career in IFS in 1964. In 1989, he was appointed the foreign secretary. He served as India’s high commissioner to Pakistan from 1985 to 1989. He also served as India’s envoy to Austria from 1982 to 1985.
