Sixteen out of 23 names nominated for the ministries in the new cabinet and presented to the lower house by Vice President Mohammad Qasi Fahim are sitting or former ministers.

According to the list, sitting Defense Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak, sitting Interior Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar and incumbent Finance Minister Mohammad Omar Zakhilwal would remain in their offices.

In the list no one has been introduced to replace acting Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta.

After reviewing the profiles of the nominees, members of the lower house would give vote of confidence and possibly some of them would be rejected.

Speaking on the occasion, speaker of the lower house Mohammad Yunus Qanooni asked the legislators to attend lower house session on Sunday and take decision with regard to the nominees.

The ministers’ names were supposed to be presented to parliament within two weeks after President Hamid Karzai’ inauguration ceremony for the second five-year term on Nov. 19 but has been delayed twice.
