Jamia student at No. 7 in Engineering Services Exam 2009

New Delhi: Amir Yadav, a recently passed out student from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia, has secured All India Rank 7 in the Indian Engineering Services (IES) Examinations 2009.

His roll number is 000276 and out of the 130 successful candidates in the Mechanical Engineering Group of the IES Examinations, Amir Yadav has been placed 7th.

In a letter to Jamia Millia, Yadav, a native of Rajasthan, has acknowledged the role played by Jamia. “I am thankful to my teachers who helped me to achieve success in my life” Yadav said in the letter. He further adds, “My department provided me conducive environment for my preparation”.

The combined competitive examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services. The Indian Engineering Services are the Technical Services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India.

“Jamia Millia Islamia is proud of Mr. Amir Yadav’s achievements and wishes him the very best in all his endeavours,” said Jamia Media Coordinator Simi Malhotra.

The engineering courses offered by Jamia are considered prestigious and bring a good market value to the degree holders.

For the academic year 2010-2011, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has received an unprecedented number of Application Forms for admission to its B. Tech. course in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics & Communications and Computer Science streams. A total number of 29,289 Application Forms have been received against an intake of 350 seats which is a significant increase from 21,632 received last year.

“Part of the reason for this huge rush of applications is also the excellent placement record of the Faculty as also a good number of students who have qualified the GATE examination,” said Jamia media coordinator.

The Entrance Test for B. Tech. is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2010 at 10.00 AM simultaneously at various centers located at Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Guwahati, Calicut including Delhi & NCR. This is the first time that the university is holding its entrance examination for these courses outside NCR.
