Kerala to host Congress’ south regional conference

By IANS,

New Delhi: Kerala’s state Congress unit chief Ramesh Chennithala said Wednesday that the party will host its southern regional conference in October.

The Kerala conference will be one of the five such conferences being organised across the country as part of 125th anniversary of the Congress.

“The KPCC (Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee) has agreed to host the conference in the state during the third week of October, after the elections to local civic agencies,” Chennithala told IANS.

He announced this after a meeting of south Indian states’ Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs and Congress legislative party leaders here.

Senior party leaders, including union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily and Motilal Vora attended the meeting chaired by Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Mohsina Kidwai, he said.

“If the conference is held in Kerala, it would help boost party workers’ morale ahead of the assembly election next year,” he said.

The KPCC chief said the south Indian regional conference planned for October may be attended by some 5,000 party workers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa.
