New Delhi : The national capital Thursday recorded the highest minimum temperature in 40 years in June at 34.7 degrees Celsius.
“Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius Thursday which was seven degrees above normal for this time of the year,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the IMD, the national capital recorded its earlier highest minimum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius in June 1969.
Thursday’s minimum temperature was higher than Wednesday’s 34 degrees Celsius that broke a five-year record for June.
The city also experienceds duststorm in many parts Thursday.
According to the IMD, the rise in the minimum temperature was due to the suspended dust particles in the sky which trap heat in the atmosphere.
“The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius with the possibility of a duststorm and thunderstorm followed by a little rain in some parts,” the official said.
