Ashok Chavan to visit US, Singapore, Malaysia

Mumbai : Chief Minister Ashok Chavan will lead a delegation for a week-long trip to the US, Singapore and Malaysia Saturday to study infrastructure and developmental projects in those countries that could be implemented in Mumbai, an official said Friday.

The tour will focus on urban development, low cost housing, development of transport facilities, security systems on public transport facilities, airports development, exploring means to harness water transport, among others.

In Los Angeles, Chavan and his team will visit the Minneta Transportation Institute (MTI) and discuss the security measures implemented on that city’s public transport facilities, the official added.

With a view to providing adequate security to the upcoming mono-rail and metro-railway project in Mumbai, the delegation will sign an understanding with MTI, the official said.

The delegation will also hold discussion with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Authority and the Southern California Association of Governments on their experiences.

In Singapore, the delegation will study urban development, public housing and water supply, airport, light rail transit system, seamless travel and other models.

In Malaysia, the delegation will visit the company which is supplying the coaches for the Mumbai monorail project.
