Shimla : The mercury continued to rise across the hills of Himachal Pradesh Saturday, recording temperatures two to six degrees above normal. In some areas it crossed 42 degrees Celsius.
Shimla, situated at an altitude of 2,130 metres, was warm at 28.5 degrees Celsius, 5.3 notches above average. It recorded a high of 27.3 degrees Celsius Friday.
“The maximum temperature remained above average in the state due to lack of rain,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office, told IANS.
He said Una town, located on the Punjab border, was the hottest at 42 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the maximum temperature in Una was 41.6 degrees.
Dharamsala in Kangra district recorded a high of 36.4 degrees Celsius, five notches above average, while it was 37.4 degrees in Sundernagar in Mandi district, 35.2 degrees in Bhuntar in Kullu district and 38.4 degrees in Mandi town.
These towns Friday saw the day temperature at 35.4 degrees, 35.9 degrees, 34 degrees and 36.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The met department said dry weather would prevail across the state Sunday.
