New Delhi : The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university said it has detected eight cases of impersonation in the admission process.
According to university officials, the crime was detected when the photographs of the youths who appeared for an interview to the B.Tech programme did not match that of those who took the entrance examination.
According to university officials, in six cases the students appearing for the interview were different from those who appeared in the entrance test.
“Two other candidates left the interview venue after the others were caught,” said Simi Malhotra, media coordinator, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The university from this year has started a new process to verify the identity of the students appearing for the interview by matching it with the photograph taken on the day of the entrance examination.
University officials said the varsity’s policy against impersonation and cheating has been quite successful.
Officials said that two Jamia students were earlier caught impersonating in the entrance test for Diploma in Elementary Teacher Education on June 6. The two have been expelled by Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung.
In other cases, three boys were caught impersonating during its B. Tech. admission test on May 29 and two others were apprehended while impersonating in its BDS Admission Test on May 30. Another youth was caught impersonating in the Diploma Engineering Entrance Test held on June 1.
Officials said the cases have been forwarded to the University Proctor for necessary action.
