“I was expecting my name to be announced in the second list but it did not happen. Now I am hoping that my name will be announced in the third list,” said an aspirant Rahul Agrawal.

The deputy dean for student’s welfare, Gurpreet Singh Tuteja told IANS that there are courses like philosophy, Arabic, Sanskrit, Punjabi and Bengali in which seats were still vacant.

“After the announcement of the second list there are many students who can get admission as the third list is yet to be announced and the seats are still vacant in some of the courses,” Tuteja said.

“This year almost 5,000 seats have been added to keep up with the growing number of applicants,” he added.

Last year there were 49,000 seats which has been increased to 54,000.

There has been a steep rise in the number of students who have applied this year. Last year 120,000 students applied for 49,000 seats and this year 147,000 applied for 54,000 seats.

“As compared to the previous year the number of the students for various courses have increased. But we are hopeful that the third list will be able to accommodate the remaining students,” said Tuteja.
