BJP uses horse carts to protest fuel price hike

By IANS,

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here Thursday took out a procession on horse carts to protest the central government’s decision to hike fuel prices in the country.

“This procession is part of our national campaign launched against the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities. The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government is not at all bothered about the common man whose life has become very miserable,” BJP national general secretary Vijay Goel told reporters here.

Over 35 horse carts were used in the procession.

“This matter is related to the poor of our country. Therefore, we have chosen horse carts. We will force the government to roll back the increased prices,” stated Goel.

The central government June 25 ended curbs on petroleum pricing and hiked the prices of diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. The price of diesel went up by Rs.2 a litre, kerosene by Rs.3 a litre, cooking gas by Rs.35 per cylinder and petrol by Rs.3.50 a litre.
