Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress-led opposition in Kerala Monday accused ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) legislators of double standards, saying while they attended the assembly they had asked others to take part in the nationwide protest against fuel price hike.
Opposition leader Oommen Chandy, just before leading the entire opposition out of the house, said: “All of us know why all your legislators signed the attendance register in the assembly.”
An opposition legislator who did not wish to be identified told IANS that if a legislator signs the work register, he is eligible to get a daily allowance of Rs.500.
Normal life came to a standstill and all offices reported minuscule attendance due to the minuscule attendance, while shops and even banks downed shutters.
Chandy said ruling front legislators were resorting to double standards.
“We all know now you will write to the speaker that they need not be given the daily allowance for today so as to make it known that you have joined the striking workers. This is just to fool people,” he pointed out.
