Corruptions charges should be dealt after CWG is over, says Gill

New Delhi: Sports minister M.S. Gill said Saturday that all charges of corruption related to the Commonwealth Games should be dealt with after the Games are over and asked stakeholders not to lose focus.

Gill’s statement comes a day after TV channel Times Now reported that the British government has launched an investigation into alleged dubious money transfers to a UK company after a letter written by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee to the Revenue and Customs Department of United Kingdom came into focus.

Reacting to media allegations, Gill said: “We should not lose focus of the necessity of delivering a good Commonwealth Games in the honour of our country. The prime focus is to host the games in the best possible manner.”

The sports ministry said that the government has always dealt with corruption strongly and will do the same with the Commonwealth Games as well.

“We have always dealt with corruption promptly. We must put everything before parliament and the people of this country. Ours is a powerful democracy where the press is very strong and active. People have the right to know. Whatever cases of corruption are emerging, we can deal with them even after the games are over,” he said.
