New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party Monday demanded a probe by either a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged corruption in the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Senior party leader Gopinath Munde told reporters here that the probe should “look into the quality of work, corruption and delays”.

Asked if the party was demanding resignation of CWG organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, he said the party had demanded a probe into the alleged corruption.

Responding to a question about the BJP demanding a CBI probe when it had termed the agency as “Congress Bureau of Investigation”, Munde said that the party wants it be impartial. “We will criticise whatever wrong has happened,” he said.

Earlier, participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on the preparations for the Oct 3-14 mega event, party member Kirti Azad equated the Games to a “big fat Indian wedding without the groom” and said it should not be called the Commonwealth Games but “Corrupt Games”.

“The stadia are incomplete. Where would the marriage be held,” he asked.

He alleged that there was lack of co-ordination among the ministries and government agencies in creating the infrastructure for the games.

“It is a very sorry state of affairs. Nobody has taken responsibility. The work is in a shambles. Incomplete stadia stare us in the face,” Azad said.

Alleging a scam of thousands of crores of rupees in developing the infrastructure for the Games, he said a JPC probe should be held to unearth the truth.
