No evidence of Maoists getting foreign support: Chidambaram

By IANS,

New Delhi : The government does not have any evidence of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) getting monetary or other support from any international agency or military organisation, Home Minister P. Chidambaram told the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.

“There is no evidence that the CPI-Maoist gets any work support internationally or from any military organisation. There have been some inputs linking the CPI-Maoist with organisations in Nepal but they are not confirmed,” Chidambaram said while replying to a query during question hour.

The home minister said the Maoists get weapons smuggled through the Bangladesh and Myanmar borders.

“There is also no evidence of CPI-Maoist getting support from China. They raise funds from within country through extortion,” Chidambaram said.

The government will look into the matter and will take action against those found guilty, he added.
