Mexico City : At least 24 people, allegedly Central Americans lacking legal status in Mexico, died in a shipwreck off the coast of the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, police said.
The bodies were found at San Francisco beach, 320 km away from the Mexico-Guatemala border, police said, adding that the bodies were slowly washed ashore. At least 22 bodies were found on the beaches of San Francisco Ixhuatan and two others in San Francisco del Mar in Tehuantepec isthmus.
Citizen Protection secretary Sergio Segreste said Friday’s shipwreck was caused by bad weather in the region but the boat was also overloaded.
