Iran produced over 10.5m tons petrochemicals in 6 months

Tehran : Affiliated complexes of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) have produced 10.6 million tons of different types of products in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2007), said NPC Sunday.

The figure is tantamount to 73 percent of nominal capacity, achieving 96 percent of the goal targeted by the plan, reported PIN.

According to the NPC, the complexes’ output in Iranian calendar month of Shahrivar (August 23 to September 22) surpassed 2.1 million tons, equaling 75 percent of nominal capacity and 98 percent of targeted figure.

During the one month period, the complexes of Zagros, Bu Ali Sina, Bandar Imam, Shiraz, and Bistoun had the highest shares with 129,000, 111,000, 110,000, 102,000, and 101,000 ton outputs respectively.

The country has also exported more than 4.9 million tons of petrochemical products in the first seven months of the year – Mar 21 to Oct 22, 2007.

According to the Iran Petrochemical Commercial Company (IPCC), the exported products fetched the country over 2.7 billion dollars, showing over 56 percent rise when compared to the figure of the corresponding period in its preceding year.

With an over 1.4 million ton weight, liquefied gas had the lion’s share among export-bound products.

According to predictions, the value of petrochemical exports will reach five billion dollars by the end of the current Iranian year (Mar 19, 2008).

According to the forecast, the sector also earns about 37 trillion rials (some 4 billion dollars) within the period by injecting petrochemical products into domestic market.

Based on the National Petrochemical Company’s statistics, 13 petrochemical complexes will be inaugurated by next March, resulting in 18 million ton increase in the country’s production capacity.

Six petrochemical complexes were put into operation during the first half of the current year.
