The director general of police told media persons here: “The investigations are going ahead in the right track. We have looked into every aspect and we will soon crack the case.”

On Saturday, school teacher Krishna Kumar’s wife K.R. Geetha complained to Punnoose that no arrests have been made in the case.

Kumar was found severely injured near Kottarakara, some 70 km from here, around 10.45 p.m. Sep 27. Highway police first took him to a local hospital but he was later moved to the Medical College Hospital here as his condition was serious.

The police Saturday came out with a profile of a youth based on the statement by Kumar that it was he who first spotted him lying on the road.

According to the police, they traced the youth Sunday afternoon. The youth claimed that on his way back home on his two wheeler he found a pair of footwear on the road and stopping his vehicle he saw a man lying injured on the road.

He soon informed the highway police and went further to see if there was any vehicle which had hit the victim but finding nothing he went home.

The first theory circulated was that Kumar’s rectum was pierced with an iron rod, his genitals crushed and his hips smashed.

However, a medical board report concluded Friday that Kumar’s injuries might have been caused due to a vehicle accident and that his rectum was not pierced by a rod, nor were his genitals crushed.

Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) had alleged that the attack was masterminded by jailed ruling United Democratic Front leader and former minister R. Balakrishna Pillai and his minister-son K.B. Ganesh Kumar.

The school where Kumar and Geetha work belongs to Pillai and the teacher couple and Pillai were involved in a long running feud, sources said.
