Sonia assures AMUCC of ending deadlock over Kishanganj centre

New Delhi: Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has assured the Delhi based non-political group AMUCC (Aligarh Muslim University Coordination Committee) that the deadlock over the Kishanganj centre of AMU would end. She promised to ask HRD Minister Kapil Sibal to resolve the issue on immediate basis.

A delegation of AMUCC met the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at the headquarters of Congress on Friday (March 23, 2012). AMUCC group led by Convenor Mohammad Aslam was accompanied by Congress MP from Kishanganj Maulana Asrarul Haque. The group working for the cause of proposed AMU Centre in Kishanganj urged to Mrs Gandhi to push ahead the construction work.

As of now, the construction work for AMU Centre in Kishanganj is on hold due to pending of approval from Visitor (President of India), which is supposed to be done through the Union Ministry of HRD. Next, the Ministry of Finance is needed to grant token amount of Rs. 50 crore for infrastructure development.

Mrs Gandhi keenly listened to the issues described by the Congress MP Haque and AMUCC team. Veteran Congress leader Oscar Fernandes was accompanying Mrs Gandhi in the meeting. He noted down the points properly as per instruction of Congress Chairperson. Mrs Gandhi assured that she will guide the HRD Minister Kapil Sibal to end the deadlock on immediate basis. She had also said that very soon the people of Seemanchal area in Bihar will see the special centre of AMU in Kishanganj.

AMUCC team members included Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Mudassir Alam, Soban M Ahmad, Kaifee Anwer, Danish Anwer, Minnat Rahmani, Tauquir Alam (JNU), Sarwer Alam, Jawed Iqbal and Matin Iqbal.
