BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi described Friday’s bombings in Uttar Pradesh, which claimed 13 lives, as part of a “design to vitiate the atmosphere of communal harmony in the country”.

“In the last three years the terrorists are striking at will anywhere and everywhere, be it Ayodhya, Varanasi, Ajmer, Hyderabad or Mumbai. The way they have spread their network throughout the country is a matter of grave concern for all of us,” Naqvi said in a statement.

“We do not want to make a political capital out of this. But the Congress party and the central government have sent out terrorist-friendly signals. This strengthens the resolve of the terrorists.”

He added: “The BJP will support the government if it resolves to fight the terrorists and bring in a suitable law for this purpose.”

Asked whether he was seeking re-promulgation of POTA, the BJP leader said, “We have always said that removal of POTA was the first soft signal sent by this government to the terrorists.”
