Bangalore : India are now two short of breaking the world record of 71 extras conceded by West Indies in Pakistan’s innings of 435 at Georgetown in 1988.
India conceded 69 extras in the first innings against Pakistan on the third day of the final Test match here Monday and eclipsed their previous tally of 60 in England’s 633 for five at Birmingham in 1979.
Other highlights of the third day’s play are:
# India earned another dubious distinction of conceding 31 byes, bettering their tally of 29 in England’s innings of 559 for 8 wickets declared at Kanpur in February 1964.
# Salman Butt (68) registered his highest against India, bettering his 67 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi last month. Butt’s sixth fifty is his third against India.
# Misbah-ul-Haq became the first batsman from Pakistan to amass 300 runs in the series at an average of – 348 at an average of 116.00.
# Misbah’s unbeaten 54 is his second fifty in the series, besides the hundred he hit in the Kolkata Test.
# Younis Khan has amassed 751 runs this year in eight Tests at an average of 57.76, including three centuries — the most by a Pakistani in 2007.
# Younis’ 80 off 156 balls is his 20th fifty, his fourth against India.
