India adds 5.81 mn telecom users in November

New Delhi : India has added 5.81 million new telecom users under the global system of mobile (GSM) telephony in October.

Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest mobile services operator, added 2.05 million new users, taking its number of subscribers to 52.96 million as on Nov 30. It reached a market share of 31.94 percent, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said in a statement.

Vodafone Essar, formerly Hutch Essar, added 1.37 million new connections against October’s 1.52 million new users. Its total subscriber base stands at 38.56 million.

State-run telecom firms Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 912,227 and 63,867 new users, respectively, in the last month.

Birla Group’s Idea Cellular reported a surge of 800,295 new additions against the preceding month’s 750,108, pushing its total number of users to 20.22 million.

The Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications, primarily a CDMA player, registered a total subscriber base of 3.05 million users with a 3.22 percent market share. It, however, did not announce its monthly additions.
