In a circular, the high court’s registrar general asked all district and sessions judges to dispose the cases and to adopt measures felt appropriate for reducing pendency of cases.

“I request you to kindly ask the judicial officers under your control to strictly follow instructions issued by this court for expeditious disposal of cases pending for more than five years,” read the circular, which follows a July 2012 order by the high court to reduce pendency of cases in subordinate courts.

The earlier drive was to make judicial system free of old cases by end of 2012 as far as possible with special focus on disposal of cases of senior citizens, minors and the disabled.
