Azad hints at taking action against Shoaib

Jammu : Following a high voltage drama in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday, Peerzada Muhammad Hussain, minister for education and Pradesh Congress Committee President, today submitted his resignation to the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who forwarded it to the governor for acceptance.

“The Minister has submitted his resignation to me and same has been forwarded to the Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) SK Sinha for acceptance”, Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told media persons after briefing state legislative assembly.

Replying to a query Azad said that the minister has also resigned from the post of president PCC.

The minister resigned after he was accused of demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 40,000 from an independent MLA Shoaib Lone.

Police on Monday had arrested driver of the minister for allegedly making a threatening call at the home of MLA, after the later revealed his name to the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The shocking revelation made by the young assembly member in the state legislative assembly on Friday created a storm in the state politics.

Hinting at the possible action against Lone, Azad said that under law the person who gives and accepts bribe are equally liable to be punished.

The minister, on the other hand, termed it a political conspiracy hatched by his rivals and said that he has resigned on moral grounds.

Sayeed told News Agency of Kashmir that he has submitted his resignation as PCC president to Sonia Gandhi and has requested her accept the same.

“This is not for the first time that a conspiracy has been hatched against me”, he said adding, “Let the government investigate the matter thoroughly and the truth will be before the masses once the probe is completed”.
