A bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Aruna Suresh asked the health ministry to inform it within a week whether it has implemented the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, which requires manufacturers to print the ingredient list on product packets.

The bench was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by Punit Gupta, seeking direction to the government and manufacturers of tobacco and alcoholic products for giving content details on the container, bottles or packets of the products.

The petitioner informed the court that now alcoholic beverages contained product details on their labels as asked required by the law.
