Pleading for Haneef, advocate Naman Narayan told the court that the board had not been formed since last two years and the state government was exploiting it for political purposes. The wakf board is a statutory body and, therefore, any political interference in its management and day to day affairs ran contrary to the purposes of the board, he contended. The applicant had demanded immediate formation of the board.
