Baghdad : A huge fire broke out before dawn in Iraq’s central bank in downtown Baghdad on Monday, causing no human casualties, an Interior Ministry source said.

The flames, which had broke out at about 2:00 a.m. local time (2300 GMT, Sunday), engulfed most of the four-story building, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Fire engines rushed to the scene to douse the fire which was under control by the morning, the source said.

Iraqi security forces cordoned off the area while experts are investigating the incident, he said.

The building, which houses the bank’s head offices, is located in Baghdad’s Rasheed Street.
