The petitioner had requested the court to ensure that the report was not implemented. In the last hearing, the court had asked the government to file its response by 27th February but the government failed to do so. A bench headed by Chief Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Rewa Kshetrapal has given the government one week’s time to submit the reply.

The Union government had formed the Sachar Committee to investigate into social, economic and educational status of Indian Muslims and forward recommendations for improving the lot of Muslims. Committee’s report was placed in the Parliament on 30th November, 2006. The writ was filed by Patriots Forum.
